Search API comparisons

Search API pricing without the fuzzy math.

Guardian competes with search APIs that bill by request, result, credit, page, retrieval depth, or some combination of those. The pages below normalize the public numbers where that is fair and call out the places where it is not.

A ten-result baseline

For AI-agent search, 10 results is a useful common denominator because Guardian, Firecrawl, Exa, and Parallel all publish pricing that can be normalized around that depth. Brave and SearchAPI.io price requests differently. You.com includes up to 100 results per call, so its $5 headline price becomes more competitive as result depth rises.

Guardian ScaleUp to 10$0.999 / 1K1M-credit monthly plan

This is a pricing orientation, not a quality ranking. Retrieval depth, extraction, indexing, throughput, and included features differ materially between providers.

Where Guardian sits

Guardian Developer costs $49 for 25,000 credits, Growth costs $249 for 200,000, and Scale costs $999 for 1,000,000. One search credit covers a request for up to 10 results. That puts the ten-result search rate at about $1.96, $1.245, and $0.999 per 1,000 searches.

Parallel Turbo and Fast cost $1 per 1,000 without requiring a $999 Guardian commitment. Firecrawl Standard is cheaper per 1,000 than Guardian Developer. You.com can be more economical when one call needs dozens of results. Guardian's strongest price position is high-volume, shallow-to-moderate result sets where search itself is the product you need.

Guardian also packages the search contract for developers: scoped API keys, monthly usage metering, REST, the @wundercorp/guardian TypeScript SDK, and MCP access. The comparison pages separate those integration choices from raw price so you can decide whether the cheaper call is also the better system fit.

Provider-by-provider comparisons

Firecrawl

Guardian vs Firecrawl

For 10-result search calls, Guardian is cheaper at the Growth and Scale tiers. Firecrawl Standard is slightly cheaper per 1,000 searches than Guardian Developer, and Firecrawl is the stronger fit when scraping or crawling is part of the same workflow.

Exa

Guardian vs Exa

Guardian is cheaper on the published base price for ten-result search. Exa costs more per request but offers Instant, Fast/Auto, Deep, and Deep-Reasoning modes plus specialized people, company, scholarly, and code-oriented search surfaces.

Brave Search API

Guardian vs Brave Search API

Guardian costs less per 1,000 ten-result searches on every current paid Guardian tier. Brave publishes a much higher Search capacity of 50 requests per second and gives you results from Brave's own independent index, which can be a deciding factor for high-throughput or index-specific workloads.

Parallel Search API

Guardian vs Parallel Search API

Guardian does not have a meaningful price advantage over Parallel Turbo or Fast at the top tier. Choose between them on retrieval quality, latency, vertical coverage, integration shape, and the workload you actually run. Guardian becomes more distinctive when you want multi-engine vertical search and MCP under the same commercial account.

Tavily

Guardian vs Tavily

Guardian is cheaper for basic search at the published pay-as-you-go Tavily rate. Tavily can justify the higher price when its advanced retrieval, content extraction, crawl, or map features reduce the amount of infrastructure and follow-up processing your agent needs.

You.com Web Search API

Guardian vs You.com Web Search API

Guardian is cheaper for ten-result calls. At 50 requested results, Guardian Scale is effectively about $5 per 1,000 calls, almost the same as You.com, while Guardian Developer and Growth cost more. You.com also supports up to 100 results per call, which Guardian's business search endpoint does not currently offer.

SearchAPI.io

Guardian vs SearchAPI.io

Guardian is cheaper at comparable self-serve volumes through the first million ten-result searches. SearchAPI.io reaches $1 per 1,000 searches at its 5-million-search, $5,000-per-month tier and adds SERP-specific capabilities Guardian does not position as part of its core business API.
